  1. I may not be the best graphics student, but at least I could figure out how to subscribe to the blog.

  2. Ha-ha, Nathan is a funny guy. Moving right along.... I happen to enjoy old propaganda posters from the Soviet Union. They were always interesting to me, in that they often used simple colors and relatively clean layouts. Over the years the layouts changed, but they still had basically the same feel. If I can get this link to work then here is an example that I found of the WWII posters.

  3. I'm not a huge Pearl Jam fan, but a friend of mine is and he plastered his office with their concert posters, which I do like a lot. They're all done by AMES BROS and I believe they're all silk screen. I like that with concert posters, you can use pretty much any random illustration to sell your band. Here's their site, it's got a poster archive you can go through. http://www.amesbros.com/
I especially like the lumberjack and the lawnmower boy from the 2005 tour.

  5. http://www.altoids.com

This web site has a lot of clever advertising poster for the mint product known as Altoids.

I like the posters because they use something completely random to tie in and sell their product. I also enjoy the witty headlines, quick reads, clean layout and contrasting colors. I think the whole series is very well done.

  6. Well so much for posting a pic i see.... Any hoot.
I've selected a poster by the well-known illustration designer Tim Gough, who is based in Philadelphia. Practically everything he does is drawn by hand, abstract, very non-conventional and non-symmetrical in a sense. All aspect I admire and respect because i for one can not draw worth nothing and it's a style rarely seen in pop culture media. When he creates a poster, cover or editorial. He seems to have a way of showcasing the idea at hand in a simple manner without over doing things by making it making it to flashing. For example with the following poster: http://timgough.org/work.php?item=146 sending the message out that the band Armalite is returning to the scene.
He made the bands name the visual image of the poster by hand drawing an arm representing the "arm" portion of the bands name, and flame around the hand of the arm representing the "lite" in the bands name. By having the arm reach up into the sky, it represents the return of the band. In keeping things simple the message gets across clearly and very effectively.

  7. Hopefully you guys can appreciate these designs... I found a poster design series called "Font-bots" where the artist used font types and created designs using actual type. Check it out here:

    www.indvr.com/2006/12/font-bots

Although the design of the font-bots is fairly complex the overall layout of the poster is very simple and clean. I mostly love the creativity of the artist. Typography can be pretty fun. I'm gaining a new appreciation for it.

  9. I like these two PSA posters out of France because they are visually interesting and they have impact. The conceptual genius of these posters are that they say so much without saying much at all. Upon viewing the posters it is unclear what the message is and if in fact there is a message at all. Once the viewer scans the poster though the sponsor's name is subtly revealed at the bottom in small print with a small logo. Then the content makes perfect sense; practice safe sex or your sleeping with potential death.

  11. My favorite type of posters would have to be the movie poster designs. Some people decide if they want to see the movie just by looking at the poster for the movie. The Design of movie posters have a large room for creativity from layout to concept. My favorite movie poster artist is John Alvin. His work ranges from Disney movies, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Jurassic Park just to name a few. Trying to capture the essence of the movie in a poster design to sway someone to go see the movie takes talent.
